Land Rover Range Rover Sport Review
The Range Rover Sport has always been known as the cheaper version of the regular vehicle but with a sporty flair in order to give it a distinct pedigree. However, this new model which was unveiled at the 2013 New York Motor Show in January seems to lose that tag and is now a model by itself.
It is based on the new lightweight aluminium platform that underpins the standard Range Rover and this has helped it become 420kgs lighter than the outgoing model. This is also the first Range Rover Sport to get a third row of seats (which fold into the back row) and is a seven seater.
Exterior
The Range Rover Sport shares much of its design with the standard car. It has the same line in the front, side and the rear. However, the distinction is there due to it having a more sloping roof line. The Range Rover Sport is available in a two-tone paint job and gets blacked out headlights with LEDs and a sporty body kit which includes a rear spoiler.
Interior
The Range Rover Sport gets the same features and trim as the standard vehicle and this includes leather trims for the seats as well as the steering and the gearknob. It has also been fitted with a touchscreen infotainment system and wood finish which can be changed for the optional carbon fibre trim. The third row folds into the rear floor allowing for extended boot space. Special features include a Meridian 3D audio System, 360 degree camera system, screens for the rear seats and a power tailgate.
Engine line-up
The India spec Range Rover Sport gets two engine options; the 3.0-litre V6 diesel that produces 293bhp/600Nm of torque and the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol that produces 510bhp/625Nm of torque. Both engines have been mated to a four-wheel-drive system and the ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox.
